The Center and Alliance for a Better World started growing its roots in the late 1980s. I was a teenager at the time and I was absolutely dumbfounded by what seemed to me to be a world overrun by incredibly stupid and cruel people. And, unfortunately, I saw myself as one of its many victims. In response, I theorized the creation of an organization called "People Against People". The general idea was for members to wear boldly branded "People Against People" t-shirts everywhere they went while continuously looking for ways to improve the world and generally help people (especially those in need). In other words, to set a self-righteous "in your face" example. Yep, youth is like that sometimes; especially when injured.

While in my 20s, during the 1990s, my playful idea gradually became evermore sophisticated and I changed the name to "The Society for Human Decency". (You see, much more sophisticated! LOL) I imagined increasingly larger campaigns of benevolent acts and awareness of them. I even designed the essence of the logo that is still in use today for The Center and Alliance for a Better World. But... it was still just a theoretical concept... and it was still based on an underlying perspective of self-righteousness and personal victimization. Alas, I was still an injured boy.

It was during the turn of the century, while living in a 50' tall pyramid that I built (with my own hands) in a remote location in the Southern Colorado Rocky Mountains, that I finally felt the internal shift from victimization to empowerment (and from boy to man). It was largely the result of realizing that the only way I could ever actually feel hopeful about our world's future, was to actively help create it (rather than simply judge it); and that, as an able-bodied adult, it was my natural responsibly to do so.

This realization was amplified by the profound and disturbing realization that any individual or organization that lived long enough could eventually come to control everything in the world (and beyond). Sustained intention and effort is the key.

I decided to walk away from my high-paying internet systems analysis & design consulting business (and my awesome pyramid home on 80 acres in the wild) and began actively trying to help create an ever-better world in two ways: 1) By offering myself as a spiritual (wisdom) healer and teacher and 2) By finally creating what I was, by then, calling "The Center and Alliance for a Better World" (which was/is based on a perspective of responsibility and empowerment). Soon, I moved to Portland, Oregon (after a brief stop in Seattle, Washington) to do just that.

Over the years, I have planted numerous intentional seeds with the hope that they may eventually help (obviously there are an infinity of causes) to cause our human family to consciously and intentionally use the power of sustained intention and effort to create an ever-better world, rather than unconsciously and unintentionally become hapless slaves in a world under the total control of those who choose to abuse this power. Along the way, I have experienced many things that made me feel like I was actually making a difference (even if sometimes very small) and many things that made me feel like I was wasting my precious time and energy. In any event, the quality of our collective future is extremely important to me.

Because... I actually believe that we are literally all one.

I also believe that the Center and Alliance can be infinitely more than it currently is. I possess great insight, integrity, wisdom, and love; but, unfortunately, I am naturally reclusive and lack many of the qualities and skills needed to realize my vision. Created three Centers for Global Enlightenment. These were originally three separate Centers (web sites) that were later (2022) merged into one.

Created gathering places for Spiritual Atheists and Non-Literal Theists:

2002-2009: Yahoo Group (eventually shut down by Yahoo)
2009-2013: NING Social Networking Group (shut down in 2013)

These projects have been very successful. When I first started promoting these ideas, there was almost no mention anywhere of terms like "Spiritual Atheism" and "Non-literal Theism"; now "Spiritual Atheism" is commonly used to reference one's personal orientation. In fact, there are now even published books that use these terms in their title. (I have published three such books.)

Naturally, I don't claim to be the first person to use the term "Spiritual Atheism" (which has been in limited use for centuries); but I do claim to have done much to clearly define it, make use of it, and promote it via The Center for a Better World, The Center for Spiritual Atheism, and my personal work as a spiritual (wisdom) author, teacher, & life coach and alternative music recording artist.

2006-2012

Created The Center for Individual and Organizational Empowerment (deceased)

Note: This was a localized and globalized directory and calendar of extremely well organized resources and events that support individual and organizational empowerment. Although I was able to build the initial system; I did not have the finances required to promote it, maintain it, or enhance it. For these reasons, this system was shut down long before it reached maturity.

Created The Alliance Social Networking System (deceased)

Note: The original Alliance web site was primarily conceptual and had extremely limited functionality. This new web site was a fully functional social networking system for individuals and organizations that were interested in helping to create a better world. Although I was able to build the initial system; I did not have the finances required to promote it, maintain it, or enhance it. For these reasons, this system was shut down long before it reached maturity.

2013-2019

During this time, I had many personal life challenges that resulted in virtually no excess time or money. For this reason, I made almost no progress with The Center and Alliance; and I had to shut down The Alliance Social Networking System and The Center for Individual and Organizational Empowerment (as described above).

2020+

Created Operation SOLITARY SOLIDARITY in response to international political, economic, technological, and social issues that threaten the fundamental freedom required to actively create an ever-better world. Integrated "Know Thy Enemy".

Combined all three Centers for Global Enlightenment (see above) into one Center for Global Enlightenment. Integrated "Know Thy Self".

Completed a massive reduction and simplification of all projects and web sites.

Created and launched a brand new fully functioning social media platform* for individuals and organizations that are interested in helping to create a better world.

*Note: This is my third attempt at trying to activate the Alliance. Previous attempts did not result in enough support and eventually fizzled out; but the world is currently in a much more motivated state of mind. For this reason, I have decided to give the Alliance one final attempt before laying down my torch. (If this concerns you, you should know that I take great comfort in knowing that I have done (and continue to do) what I could (can) and that there will always be those who dedicate their life to helping to create an ever-better world. Also, as the older "light workers" fade away; the younger "light workers" begin to burn brightly. This is as it should be!)

FINAL UPDATE (7/18/2022)

After 20+ years, I have failed for a third (and probably final) time to successfully activate the Center and Alliance I envision. I send my best wishes to those who attempt to succeed where I have failed; and, as always, I send my love to all.

I believe I have come to understand some extremely valable things through this endeavor; and I am considering publishing what I envisioned and what I have learned. If you would like to help me do this, please let me know.
